Travel writing that goes further than the guidebook

Outbound Nepal has spent over two decades sending curious writers, photographers, and locals-in-the-know to the places most guides skip — so our readers can travel with a little more depth, and a lot more care.

How we started

Born from a single overloaded backpack

Outbound Nepal began in a spare room with two second-hand cameras and a shared belief that travel writing had gotten lazy — recycling the same ten cities, the same ten "hidden gems" that weren't hidden at all.

We set out to do the opposite: send writers to stay long enough to actually know a place, work with local guides and homestays instead of around them, and publish stories that hold up even after the trend cycle moves on.

That instinct is still what shapes every issue and every story on this site today.

What we stand for

The principles behind every story

Community first

We work with local guides, hosts, and businesses so tourism revenue stays close to home.

Honest reporting

No paid placements dressed up as recommendations. If we say it's worth your time, we mean it.

Slower travel

We favour depth over checklists — a week in one town over a day in ten cities.

Built for readers

Every guide is written to actually be used on the ground — not just read for inspiration.
